The club has been on Smack Point since 1951 (before Fort Walton added “Beach” to its name) at the western end of Choctawhatchee Bay, with the Gulf reachable through East Pass at Destin. It flies the GYA burgee alongside its FCYC membership, which puts it in both of the networks that matter on this coast: Gulf Yachting Association inter-club racing to the west, Florida Council reciprocity to the east and south.
Racing is the club’s public face. Wednesday Night Fun Races run through the season as the low-stakes weekly fixture, and the fall calendar stacks named one-day regattas nearly back-to-back on the bay: the Hennicke, the Bay Challenge Cup, the Thomas, the Brinkmann, the FCA. The Meigs Regatta is the one the club itself leads with. Choctawhatchee is a good bay for exactly this: big enough for real courses, protected enough that a one-day event rarely loses its weather window.
Youth sailing runs through the club’s sailing camp and lessons program, and the club describes itself as a gathering place for “sailors, boaters, & families,” in that order, which matches the volunteer, sail-first culture of the place.
