TYCC Wednesday Night Series
Short-course Portsmouth racing off Ballast Point for centerboard and keelboat classes under 19 feet; two races each Wednesday. 2026 spring session scored via Regatta Network.
Founded in 1904, Tampa Yacht & Country Club is one of Tampa’s oldest private clubs, and at roughly 1,400 members one of the largest in the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs’ reciprocal network. The grounds sit on Interbay Boulevard in South Tampa, on the western shore of Hillsborough Bay just south of Ballast Point Pier. Fourteen acres hold the clubhouse, marina, and the “country club” half of the name: tennis, a pool with its own swim team, equestrian stables, fitness, and dining. It carries a Platinum Club of America designation.
Sailing runs off Ballast Point. The Wednesday Night Series races Portsmouth handicap through daylight-saving season: two short-course races an evening, open to any centerboard or keelboat class under 19 feet, scored on Regatta Network. The club keeps its own small-boat fleet of Flying Scots, Sunfish, RS Zests, C420s, and Optimists; members certified by the Waterfront Director can take the two Flying Scots out Tuesday through Sunday. The Mainsheet Mamas, the club’s women’s sailing group, have been meeting most Thursdays since 1973.
Youth sailing is a fixture. The Gasparilla Regatta each January brings Optimist, C420, and ILCA youth fleets to Hillsborough Bay; a seasonal interclub Opti series with Davis Island Yacht Club races mid-bay between the two clubs; and summer camps take kids 8–13 through rigging, boat handling, seamanship, and water safety. The season closes with the Championship Regatta each November, a perpetual trophy contested, with dinner to follow, between the club’s youth and adult sailors.
