How it works

– Liveaboard / multi-day
✓ Captain optional
– Bareboat cert required

Most of Florida’s beach-cat rentals sit on protected bay or sound water. This one is on the open Atlantic, half a mile south of Atlantic Avenue and just north of the Seagate, which makes it a different kind of sail: surf launches and swell. The boats live on the sand, rigged a few feet from the water and pushed out when you are ready.

Three models are on the beach: the 14-foot Hobie Wave, the 16-foot Getaway, and a Hobie 16 for anyone who wants the faster boat. No certificate or prior course is required, and for rusty sailors the operator says staff can reacquaint you with the basics and send you off. Lessons are a separate product, and so is a boat captain if you want someone else on the helm. Call ahead to check the wind before driving over, and bring quarters for the meters.

One offering worth knowing about if you own a small boat: they store sailboats up to 18 feet by the month or the year, tows to and from the water included.
