✓ Liveaboard / multi-day
✓ Captain optional
– Bareboat cert required

Fun In The Sun charters two sailing catamarans out of its own private marina on the west side of the Middle River in Fort Lauderdale, below the Sunrise Boulevard bridge: Flash Of Green, a Lagoon 45, and Cattitude, a Bali Catspace 40. The company dates itself to 1979 and describes itself as the longest continuously run charter operation in South Florida.

The qualification regime is a resume rather than a certificate. The company issues a charter contract on receipt of the deposit and, for a bareboat booking, a boating resume on its own form, which asks for three sailing references with full addresses. No ASA or US Sailing level is named anywhere on the site, so a sailor with real miles and no paperwork has a route here that the certificate-gated operators do not offer. A licensed captain can be hired instead.

Charters run seven days, noon to noon, and the cruising grounds are the reason to take a catamaran from this particular dock: the Keys south, and the Gulf Stream crossing east to the Abacos and the wider northern Bahamas, both of which the company runs dedicated itineraries for. It shares an office building with Blue Water Sailing School, which is a separate business.
