Space Coast ASA school on the Indian River / ICW, covering Basic Keelboat through Coastal Navigation alongside day-sail and sunset charters out of Harbortown Marina.
Beachside Sailing works two kinds of water from Harbortown Marina on Merritt Island: the protected Indian River Lagoon and Banana River for lessons and river charters, and the open Atlantic through Port Canaveral when a course wants ocean. Captain Billy Chandler has owned the operation since 2018, after five years working for the school before buying it, and the program keeps that owner-run scale: certification classes cap at three or four students.
The boats step up with the student. Basic Keelboat (101) teaches on a Hunter 23, Basic Coastal Cruising (103) moves to a 42-foot Vagabond, and Bareboat Chartering (104) runs as a three-day, two-night liveaboard. Coastal Navigation (105) is four three-hour sessions a week apart rather than one crammed weekend.
The sailing club is the distinctive offer. Members pay a monthly minimum that credits toward rentals, charters, and classes, the standard tier includes the 101 course, and the Hunter 23 rental fleet doubles as a one-design class with regattas, raft-ups, and clinics on the calendar. The club turns the school into somewhere to keep sailing after the certificate: same boats, real starts, no ownership required.
Charters are captained, run about three hours from morning through sunset on the river or out the port into the Atlantic, and guests are welcome at the helm. Veterans get ten percent off the 101 course; scheduling is by appointment, weekdays and weekends alike.
