Orlando's ASA venue, a full-service marina teaching Basic Keelboat on spring-fed Lake Fairview aboard Com-Pac keelboats. Fifteen-hour courses over two to three days, October through May, in groups of up to four or private.
This is where Orlando learns to sail a keelboat: a full-service marina on the east shore of Lake Fairview, a spring-fed lake ten minutes north of downtown, teaching ASA Basic Keelboat (101) on Com-Pac 16s and 23s. The course runs fifteen hours over two or three days, in groups of two to four students or as private instruction, and classes run seasonally from October through May, when central Florida’s weather is at its most cooperative.
An inland lake is a legitimately good classroom. The water is flat, the shoreline is always close, and a student can spend the hours on tacking and boat handling instead of managing chop, with the marina’s docks right there for the docking drills that matter most later.
The lessons are co-marketed under the Sailing Orlando brand, which runs tours from the same docks, and the marina around the school handles the rest of the boating spectrum: sailboat and pontoon rentals, storage, repair, and a ship store. For anyone in Orlando who wants the 101 certificate without driving to a coast, this is the option. Veterans, active military, and reservists claim a discount on it through ASA’s Veterans Sailing Education Program.
